I’m always trying to do random projects in the indie/pop/folk/chill vein, especially with female vocals, because I love female vocals. One of these projects was/is called Character Actor. While a tiny bit of progress has been made in the four and a half years we’ve been trying to get it going (which actually got started on November 18th, 2015 where we put together 5 original songs in a few hours), it’s been really frustrating, too. And I’ve explained why it’s really important for me to get this going with this person, but it seems like I’m speaking an alien language, as she feels the same, when trying to communicate with me. I don’t know what to do. Just trying to make things happen.
This person and I have had a rocky road, since knowing each other. I fucked up a lot, and made mistakes which I owned. She’s fucked up a lot, too, and made mistakes which she’s owned. Still, it seems like we can’t just move forward from so much. Even though I’ve been trying to do that for literally many months.
I’m not getting any younger, and I love her singing and writing style, so it’s just been a frustrating road. She loves my instrumental music, and says she’s written 100 vocals to 100 ideas of mine. She has 1,400 of my unfinished song ideas on her computer. Fourteen hundred. I have none of her vocal ideas or any half-finished stuff in my possession. None. Well, wait… I do have a cover we recorded (that she was ultimately unhappy with). That’s all I have, that we’ve done together in the studio (from several states apart). But she has 1,400 of my unfinished song ideas. I have none of hers.
A little unfair, when you look at it that way.
Click here for more details / audio. A dreampop/indie/pop duo with my friend Cait. Originally my roommate (summer 2015), we started a band shortly after that, as she was quickly writing to instrumental ideas she wanted to hear of mine. We quickly wrote 6 songs, and then 6 more. We put out two EPs and three cover videos (Acceptance, Julien Baker, and Death Cab For Cutie) on YouTube. She moved to North Carolina in October 2017, for a new job and life. We still write/record, even though I’m in PA and she’s in NC. We played just one show in May 2017.
duo with Hadley Stacks (no name as of yet)
Longtime friend Hadley and I do music together sometimes. It’s not a fully active thing, but we like each other’s stuff a lot (me, her singing, and her, my chill indie/folk stuff). We’re trying to put together an EP or two, and see if anyone likes what we’re doing.
cover duo with Cate Gipe (no name as of yet)
My friend and roommate Cate is a great singer and pianist who has been involved in the local Philly folk scene for several years. We’re working on putting together a bunch of covers, as we want to regularly play coffeehouses and acoustic gigs, as a female/male duo. So far, so good.
