In the 90s, there was a Swedish band that did the Rage Against The Machine thing quite convincingly called FISTFUNK…. I could NOT get enough of this album in the late 90s. I listened it to non-stop until probably 2001. It combined the best elements of Rage Against The Machine, downset, and hell, even the heavier side of Incubus (especially with the turntable scratching).
I was reminded of FISTFUNK after geeking out a little bit about synthesizer patches and stuff like that… ya know… Roland Juno-60, Juno-106, the Prophet 5, Moog synths….. I was like “wait. FISTFUNK!”
As far as I know, this is all the band did… but oh my, is this a perfect album or what. GREAT lyrics, great message, GREAT vocals… TIGHT music… angry as fuck, while fun and inspiring. Killer sound, production… GREAT SONGS.
Absolutely essential listening. Don’t sleep on this record or band. I actually have the original CD. I think a European friend of mine at the time (1997) sent this to me, after I became obsessed with Fistfunk when another friend including their songs “Bob Your Head”, and “Minders” on a mix tape he made for me.
Oh man…. memories. This album DESTROYS!!!
