Brief summary: Mike Enslin (John Cusack) is a jaded, cynical author who puts together “haunted” stories of real-life locations (usually old hotels and bed-and-breakfasts) that are supposedly severely haunted, but never seem to show any paranormal activity, when he stays in them.

One day, he receives a postcard from the Dolphin Hotel in NYC, and all it says is “Don’t enter 1408.” Curious, Enslin decides to check it out, which may turn out to be the biggest mistake of his life.

IMPORTANT NOTE—- Make sure you see the theatrical version of this, NOT the Director’s Cut. The Theatrical ending (without spoiling anything– it’s the one featuring Mike and his wife) is a million times better than the Director’s Cut ending (which only features his wife and the Dolphin Hotel manager).
