Brief summary:  Gabe is ten years old, and is head-over-heels for his classmate and karate partner Rosemary Telesco. She often gives off the vibe that she is definitely interested in Gabe, romantically… but then there are days when Gabe has no idea how Rosemary feels about him (boy, does that scenario sound familiar… the endless mystery of women… it begins young, and lasts their entire lifetime).

This movie is absolutely charming and completely realistic. It is narrated by Gabe (played by Josh Hutcherson, in one of his early roles). The things he says are laugh-out-loud funny, and completely relatable to any guy who has ever had a crush on the girl-next-door, at ANY age.

They’ve been showing this a lot on cable (HBO) recently (summer 2013), but I first saw it back in 2007 (from Netflix) and totally fell in love with the story and the characters. This film has a total Woody Allen vibe, but instead of focusing its story on neurotic adults, it focuses on two elementary-school kids, growing up and hanging out in the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Highly, highly recommended.
